About LEAPChildren attend sessions at the LEAP Centre on a weekly or fortnightly basis where the focus is on individual goal setting and programming of activities to stimulate and promote all aspects of development such as speech and language, fine and gross motor skills, social development and pre-academic educational skills. Communication between the program staff and the parents is an integral part of the program that LEAP offers. In support of our Family- Centred philosophy, we ensure that the needs of the family are central in the development of the individual goals for each child. HistoryIn 1994, parents from Wodonga were driving to Shepparton and Melbourne to access early intervention services for their children. There was nothing provided locally and a group of 4 parents, with the support of the Cooinda Family Support Group, decided to form their own Early Intervention group. Cooinda Education & Play began in 1994. In 1997, the group became The Learning Education & Play Centre (LEAP) for Early Intervention Inc. The group was growing in numbers and desperately needed to find a permanent home. Through sheer determination and many, many hours of lobbying and fundraising by this small group of parents and friends, enough money was finally raised to build a permanent home on a piece of land offered by Wodonga TAFE. Thanks to the support offered by many local businesses who donated time and products, government departments, politicians, philanthropic organizations and friends and family, the new home of LEAP was ready to be opened on August 16, 2001.
